Food is such a huge part of travel. It’s one of the main things that really gets you in touch with the culture of a place. In fact, you can learn a lot about a region based on the types of food you can find there. And in Pamplona, Spain, which is part of the Navarra Region, there are several delicious cuisines and foods that you can’t leave without trying. But, if you’ve only got a little bit of time somewhere, how do you narrow it done? I’ve taken the liberty to create a list of where to eat in Pamplona so you can take the guess work out of it.

When I’m traveling, I usually consult Culture Trip for the best places to eat. I find that they usually have options that are a great mix of local and tourist spots. So, read up on this list of dishes you can’t miss out on in Pamplona as well as this list of the best restaurants to eat there.

Where To Eat In Pamplona

You’ll probably spend most of your time in Pamplona dining on pintxos. A pintxo is a small snack that is typically eaten in a bar. They’re very popular in the Basque Country as well as in the Navarra Region. They’re a really great way to try several dishes without spending a ton of money. Remember that when ordering pintxos at a bar, you must keep track of what you’ve ordered because it usually works on the honor system here!

Bar Restaurante Zanpa

I stumbled into this bar on a rainy afternoon. It was kind of an odd time to be eating in Spain as most people enjoy a long lunch until 2 or 3 PM and then don’t eat dinner until around 10 PM. I went in there around 5:30. It wasn’t empty, but it definitely wasn’t super crowded. I grabbed myself a seat at the bar, ordered a glass of wine and waited patiently to order some pintxos. I ended up enjoying bread with iberico jam and tomato on top as well as a cheese croquette. Both were very delicious and exactly what I needed at that time. My entire bill was about 7.75 Euro.

Café Iruña

I ended up here for breakfast. It wasn’t too crowded and there were plenty of tables available to sit down at. I wish it had been warmer because there was a lovely terrace outside in the square. Café Iruña is famous for being the old stomping grounds of Ernest Hemingway. He frequented this establishment while he lived here and the cafe even plays homage to him as there is a full-size bronze bust of Hemingway erected in the bar area. Order yourself the Tortilla con Jamon, Queso, y Patatas and a fresh glass of orange juice.

Beatriz Cake Shop

If you enjoy sweets then you will definitely want to plan your day around a visit to Beatriz Cake Shop. This pastry shop is popular amongst locals and tourists and no matter what time of day or year you visit, there will most likely be a queue out front. When you finally make it to the front of the line, you’ll want to order a box of Garrotitos. These little fresh pastries are filled with chocolate and they are absolutely incredible. A full box will run you about 8 Euro.

Viandas de Salamanca Jamones y Embutidos

This is the perfect place to stop in for a fresh sandwich filled with the highest quality of Iberico ham. Or, if you’re not hungry enough for a sandwich but you still want to enjoy a snack, grab yourself a jam cone and a cheese cone. You’ll be so satisfied after chowing down on these. The iberico ham served here is incredible and you will not be disappointed that you popped in!

Mercado de Santo Domingo

If you’re interested in creating your own little picnic, then head to the Mercado de Santo Domingo. This is the local market where you can buy fresh produce, meats, cheeses, pastries and desserts, and more. It’s open from early morning until around 2:30 PM. It’s a great place to interact with locals and really experience what shopping in Pamplona looks like.

Bar Gaucho

I’m sorry I don’t have a photo for you, but I was too busy stuffing my face to get one. This place is ranked as one of the best pintxos locations and you can totally see why. It’s almost always packed with people and they serve up a unique spin on classic bar pintxos. Make sure to order the foie gras. You will want to eat 12 of them.
