Uluwatu is up next on my Bali Bucket List. And it should definitely be on yours.
Uluwatu is a sleepy surfer town and boasts the best breaks in all of Bali. Beginners beware as this is not the place for you to hop onto a board for the first time. The reef creates serious waves and the town is home to the Rip Curl cup.
The cliffside town is located about an hour from Seminyak in the southern part of the island. It’s easily accessible by taxi or uber. If you’re comfortable on a motorbike you can also drive down there. So, why Uluwatu?
Because the vibe is everything.
Sunday Sessions at Single Fin
It’s probably the best party you can find on a Sunday in the entire island of Bali. Seriously, people come down to Uluwatu for the day just to visit the cliffside bar. You’ll get an epic view of surfers, sunset and beautiful people. The drinks are pretty good (but I would stick to beer) and the food is delicious. If you have a crew coming with you reserve a table ahead of time. If you’re really lucky there might even be live music playing as the sunsets.
There seemed to be two rounds of people coming in: the sunset crowd and the late night crowd. Either way, you’re sure to have a blast and meet a ton of awesome people.
Padang Padang Beach
The small beach is home to the Rip Curl Cup. You can also see it in the final scene of the super popular movie, Eat Pray Love. While it’s not the biggest beach, it’s still really beautiful and when the tide is in it’s perfect for soaking up the sun. When the tide goes out be careful of the rock and coral if you decide to go for a swim.
Nalu Bowls At Single Fin
You can grab a tasty smoothie bowl at Nalu Bowls which is located at Single Fin (the bar became our home for our two and a half days in the town). My personal favorite: Mavericks. Order one for breakfast and watch the surfers paddle out to some crazy waves at Blue Point Beach.
Uluwatu Temple
You can still get some culture in while you visit Uluwatu. There is a gorgeous cliffside temple that is the perfect spot to catch the sunset. If you want to see a traditional Indonesian dance, you can do that at the temple. Beware of the monkeys!!
Really Chill, Cool People
I think the best part about Uluwatu was the vibe. Everyone was so laid-back and super chill. We met a ton of surfers, backpackers and vacationers and everyone was just interested in one thing: having a good time and enjoying life. This always makes a place seem more special.
