I’ve become a bit of a pro at flying over the past two years. I have been on at least fifty planes in that time. Because of this, I’ve learned how to make the time pass quickly. This means I know how to not only stay entertained, but feel good too. There are several things I won’t get on the plane without. Some of them are fairly obvious, like a good pair of headphones, a sleep mask, ear plugs, and a neck pillow. But, there are also things like moisturizer, sheet masks, and more that top that list. What are some things that you won’t get onto the plane without? Here are mine:
Ten Things I Won’t Get On The Plane Without
1. Headphones
Bose QuietComfort 20 Acoustic Noise Canceling Headphones, $249, Amazon
You have to have a good pair of headphones that are comfortable and noise-canceling for a long flight. And I won’t get onto the plane without a pair. I like to watch movies or listen to music to pass time on the flight, and a good pair of headphones make all the difference.
2. External Battery Charger
Anker Astro Portable Charger, $16, Amazon
Some planes don’t have USB charging ports or outlets. I fly a lot of budget airlines when I’m out of the country, so I always make sure to have an external battery charger with me. I make sure it’s fully charged before getting on the plane, just in case. And I usually try to find one that can charge my phone completely, twice.
3. Sleep Mask
ALASKA Bear Natural Sleep Mask, $8, Amazon
A sleep mask is a necessity. If you’re not sitting at the window seat, you may not be able to shut the window visor. During mealtimes, airlines will turn the lights back on. Don’t let any of that interrupt your slumber! Get an eye mask that will keep the light out.
4. Ear Plugs
Mack’s Ear Care Dreamgirl Soft Foam Earplugs, 50 Count, $9, Amazon
I think I’m cursed. I always get stuck in the vicinity to a crying baby during long haul flights. And if it’s not a baby, it’s someone who snores all night long. So earplugs are an essential for me. You can get a big pack of them for cheap. They’ll also come in handy if you’re staying in a hostel somewhere.
5. Neck Pillow
Lewis N. Clark On Air Adjustable And Inflatable Pillow, $15, Amazon
Airline pillows are not really the best option when it comes to snoozing on the plane comfortably. I usually bring an inflatable neck pillow so that I can adjust how firm it is. Just don’t blow it up before the plane takes off, because the altitude changes will cause it to pop.
6. Moisturizer
Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion (3 Pack), $11, Amazon
Planes are incredibly drying! So you need to make sure you have some sort of moisturizer. I use one that’s fragrance free so it doesn’t bother other people (because you don’t want to be that person). I also use one that I can use on my face as well as my body.
7. Sheet Mask
ORGAID Anti-Aging Moisturizing Sheet Mask (6 Pack), $42, Amazon
This is more for long haul flights, but a sheet mask can make all the difference. I usually pop one of these on my face when everyone around me is sleeping (because you will look silly wearing it). But, it keeps my skin super moisturized and it feels amazing and relaxing when I’m on a plane for fourteen hours.
8. Sarong
Mandala Sarong Wrap, $15, Amazon
Planes can get really cold. I usually end up wrapping myself up in the blanket provided while wearing a hoodie and I’m still freezing. So, I always bring a big scarf with me, preferably a blanket scarf or a sarong. It’s the perfect option if you feel like you need an extra blanket (and you can also use it as a beach towel when you get to your destination).
9. Healthy Snacks
Nature Valley Granola Bar Value Pack, $16, Amazon
Healthy snacks are a given for traveling. I pack a lot of granola bars in my bag. If I get hungry and the plane food is nasty or if the plane doesn’t have any meals, it comes in handy. Plus, it’s a lot cheaper to bring your own than to buy snacks at the airport.
10. Socks
Happy Socks, $12, Amazon
When I wear sandals onto the plane, I always bring a pair of socks with me. And because I travel to a lot of warm weather spots (because I’m always chasing the sun), that happens a lot. You don’t want to sit on a plane with no socks on. Your toes will get so cold!

I got my first pair of noise canceling earphones this year and they are amazing! I will have to look into buying ear plugs in bulk though, I never seem to have any when I need them…
hahaha I save the ones they give out on planes now
