Being on the road a lot or not having access to a gym or a plethora of exercise class options can make the prospect of actually working out seem daunting. But, I use it as an advantage… I actually hate going to the gym, so I welcome the challenge of finding different ways to get some physical activity in and stay healthy… So, how do I stay fit while traveling?
I ride my bicycle everywhere I go where I live in Thailand. Already thats some daily cardio.
I walk as much as I can in a new city, its the best way to take in the sites, and its cheaper than taking a taxi.
Activities, Activities, Activities… Whether its Kayaking, Paddle boarding, hiking, skiing, diving or riding a bike, I love to do different activities depending on where I am visiting.
So what about keeping a healthy diet? Well, that can be a bit trickier. For instance, living in Thailand has been a huge adjustment for me. Eating rice and noodles everyday was not something I was used to doing back in America and my body knew it and hated me for the change. I felt malnourished my first few weeks out here as I was eating more protein rich meals at home and opting for more fruits and veggies than noodles and rice.
And then I stumbled upon a salad truck at the market, and this became my dinner spot. I also made friends with a restaurant owner here who will now make me chicken and veggies without rice for lunch.
If you look hard enough, you can find healthy options wherever you go.
