Six Tips For Working From Home

A lot of people are finding themselves working remotely and being stuck at home while doing so. Working from home can be tough if you’re not used to. It can be hard to focus and hard to stay productive when you have distractions surrounding you. I work from home all of the time so I have a great process to get things done, so I figured I’d share it with you!

Six Tips for Working From Home

1. Get dressed!

Try to get dressed! What I usually do is work from my bed for my first hour — I answer emails or do menial tasks. Then, I get up and I get dressed. I usually put on workout clothes for the morning so that I know I need to get one in (whether that’s at the gym when I can go, or at home).

2. Make a list!

Lists are my favorite thing in the entire world. There is just something so satisfying about being able to cross something off or put a little check mark next to it. I seriously LOVE it. What I tend to do is make a list of the things I need to get done for the week. If you need to do a daily list, that’s fine too. I prefer to know what is due by the end of the week so I can plan my time accordingly. To make list making even more fun I use this awesome notebook by twin pines creative. They have tons of great stationary and office supplies and I’ve left the link in the bio so you can check them out!

3. Block out your time with a calendar.

I use my iCal to block out times so I know what I need to be doing when. It’s a simple way to make sure I’m staying on task. If I don’t finish something during the allotted time, I come back to it later!

4. Step away from the computer.

It’s important to step away from the computer. Whether you go and get a workout in or go for a walk, you have to take a break from staring at the screen.

5. Take a lunch break.

This is a continuation of my tip from before, but take a lunch break. You get one while working in an office, so you should give yourself one when you’re at home too. Even if it’s only twenty or thirty minutes, eat lunch away from your desk, or at least shut your laptop.

6. Stay in touch with co-workers.

I don’t have co-workers but I make it a point to stay in touch with people in the same industry as I am to make sure that we all know we are supporting one another. If you have co-workers, reach out to them to see how they’re doing with working at home!
