After 30 + hours of travel I found myself back in Southeast Asia. While my journey was a long one, it was totally worth it. So far my trip has been unbelievable. And it all started in the Gili Islands (more specifically Gili T aka Gili Trawangan).
Have you ever visited a place that you loved so much you wish you never had to leave? Well, that was Gili for me. Immediately upon arriving I felt as if I was about to have an amazing time, and that feeling was so right. I checked into La Boheme, which is a funky little hostel about a five minute walk from the main strip. The staff there were incredible. I have never met a group of people who cared more about making sure people felt at home. The hostel had several activities organized that people actually participated in, making it an awesome place to stay. (If you’re looking for accommodations in Gili T, STAY HERE! They also have free banana pancakes all day long).
I met a great crew within my first few hours on the island. I ended up hanging out with them for about five days. Had the wifi connection been a bit better, I would have extended my stay even longer. So if you’re thinking about going to Bali and are unsure about whether or not to head to the Gili Islands, do it.
Here are 6 reasons why you need to visit Gili T.
The sunsets are epic.
Seriously. They are some of the best sunsets I have ever seen in my entire life.
The nightlife is a blast.
There is live music, there are shrooms for those who wish to do dabble, there are bonfires, there are even movies on the beach if you feel like you need to take it easy. And then every night a different bar stays open late night, guaranteeing a phenomenal time.
It is really beautiful and easy to explore.
The island is gorgeous and it’s so easy to explore. Rent a bike and ride around the perimeter of the island. It takes about 2 hours and you can see gorgeous views the entire time. Stop by the many beaches to cool down with a swim.
The Instagram opportunities are endless.
Hahaha… I had to include this. Were you ever in Gili T if you didn’t take a photo on the swing?
You can snorkel in some of the clearest water.
If you’re lucky you’ll spot some sea turtles!
You can dine on delicious food for less than $2 every night.
The night market on Gili T is probably one of the best ones I’ve ever been to. For 20 rupee you can get a large plate of food. For a few extra rupees you can even get some BBQ. Wash it all down with an ice cold Bintang.

I only got to spend a few days on Gili T as we decided to go whilst holidaying in Bali but man I fell in love with the place. It’s so beautiful and so cheap. I can’t wait to go back one day!
Me too!!!
