One Week In Antigua

one week in antigua

There’s just something about feeling the soft sand between your toes, cooling off in crystal clear, turquoise water, and sinking into island time. It just makes you feel incredibly relaxed, which is how I felt during my one week in Antigua. Not to be confused with Antigua, Guatemala, Antigua makes up one of the islands of the archipelago of Antigua and Barbuda. Positioned where the Atlantic meets the Caribbean Sea, the island is home to over 365 beautiful beaches, as well as lush rainforests and colonial towns.

So, you may be wondering how to spend one week in Antigua. The great news is that there is so much to do there. One week in Antigua gives you the chance to simply scratch the surface on your exploration of the amazing Caribbean Island.

one week in Antigua – Verandah Resort and Spa

First things first, where to stay! There are so many gorgeous resorts scattered around the island of Antigua. I had the chance to check two of them out. The first one, which is where I stayed, was the Verandah Resort and Spa.

Located on 30 acres, the beachfront resort is the epitome of paradise. The resort is all-inclusive and features breathtaking views of the sea. There is nearly always something going on there. From cocktail making classes to BBQs, sailing and kayaking adventures, and more, you won’t get bored. Plus, if you’re hungry, you can choose from six restaurants to satisfy your craving.

Pineapple Beach Club

And just across the street is Pineapple Beach Club. Thehotel is adults only and all inclusive. It’s one of the sister properties of Verandah Resort and Spa and belongs to the Elite Island Resorts hotel group.

They have an awesome little beachfront bar as well as a stunning cove of transparent water to swim in!

What To Do

There are a number of things you can do while visiting Antigua. If you want to chill on the beach at your resort the entire time, you totally can. And if you’d like to go out and explore the villages, it’s easy to do. If you want to visit one of the 365 beaches each day of your trip, do it! If you’d like to go snorkeling. trekking through the forest, or kayaking, there are so many tours to choose from!

Antigua Nature Tours

Hop on a two and a half hour adventure with Antigua Nature Tours. The tour includes a kayak through the mangroves where you can see sea cucumbers, starfish, and upside down jellyfish. Afterward, you’ll head to a reef to go snorkeling around the vibrant coral and shimmering fish. And when you’re done exploring under the sea, relax on a beautiful white sand beach with an ice-cold rum punch in your hand.

 Seafood Fridays at Nelson’s Dockyard

Head down to the Copper and Lumber Store Historic Inn at Nelson’s Dockyard and dine with the locals! Every Friday night there is an amazing fish fry where you can dine on grilled mahi-mahi, coconut shrimp, crab cakes, saltfish, and more! The company is great, the food is incredible, and it’s something you can’t miss out on!

Sunset At Shirley Heights

Shirley Heights

It’s no wonder that visiting Shirley Heights is the number one thing to do in Antigua. Shirley Heights is a restored military lookout and gun battery. And wow, is that view incredible. From the top, you can see both the English and Falmouth Harbours and it’s easily the best view in Antigua. Every Sunday from 4-10 PM there is an awesome party where you can grab some BBQ, a rum punch, and listen to a local band while watching the sunset.

Scoot and Snorkel

Scooter Snorkeling

Zip through the sea on your underwater Scooter for an afternoon of exciting fun. Grab your Seadoo Rs scooter before hopping into the sea at Galleon Beach in the English Harbour. The snorkeling tour ranges from 1 – 1.5 hours, so if you’re not a good swimmer, you may get tired. But, if you are, enjoy the underwater views! You’ll fly through the water and if you’re lucky you’ll spot sea turtles and Eagle Rays! Tours start at $85.

Sunset Cruising

Sunset Cruise

If you have a free evening during your one week in Antigua, then you have to sail during sunset. There are several sunset cruise companies to choose from, but I would recommend Mystic Cruises which is part of Tropical Adventures Antigua. The tour costs $85 and lasts about two and a half hours. The price includes pick up and return from the hotel, an amazing crew and captain, finger foods, and an open bar. There’s music, tasty rum, and stunning views to take in!
