There was a lot to do in Pai, like I said in my last post about it, I could have stayed there forever…. Are you wondering the things to do in Pai that can’t be missed? I’m sharing with you all the best places to see and eat!
Things to do in Pai
Honestly, I could have just sat in a hammock on my bungalow porch, reading a book, for five days and been happy… But, you should definitely explore the gorgeous scenery of Pai!
First tip is to rent a motorbike. You really can’t do anything in Pai without one, everything is fairly spread out. We rented from Aya, which is right on the main street in town. It was about 150 baht to rent it for 24 hours, which is a pretty decent price. If you don’t feel comfortable leaving your passport, they’ll take a 1000 baht deposit and a copy of your passport instead.
Head over to Pai Canyon for the sunset. It’s beautiful and a little bit scary, but the sunsets right over the mountains and its truly a sight to see.
Visit the waterfalls!
We headed over to Pam Bok Waterfall, which was gorgeous. I’m sure that when its warmer out it gets crowded, but we went there in the morning and it was only us and maybe three other people. It’s a five minute “hike” to the waterfall after you get off your motorbike. Other waterfalls to visit: Mae Yen and Mor Paeng (which is a natural slide!).
Head to the Hot Springs. There are a number of hot springs scattered around Pai. Visit them in the early morning to avoid tourists.
Make the climb to the Temple on the Hill. Wat Phra That Mae Yen is famous for its big white buddha that you can see from almost anywhere in Pai. Walk up 300 steps to get to the top and see a stunning view of the Pai countryside.
Head off on a river rafting and tubing tour to explore some of the caves around the area. Apparently the caves are beautiful and if you aren’t comfortable on a motorbike, a tour is the next best option.
Where to Eat in Pai
Take a ride over to The Land Split and indulge in some delicious fresh fruits, vegetables and nuts. Relax in some hammocks with a delicious glass of roselle juice. This place has it all… and you pay for it based on a donation system. The people who own this farm are ridiculously nice, their hospitality is everything.
We stumbled upon some DELICIOUS mexican food. If you know me well, you know I’m obsessed with tacos, and Cafecito had some amazing fish tacos. The service was fantastic and the ambiance was just what I needed.
After my tacos I was craving some ice cream… So, I headed over to the place across the street called, Fruit Factory. And then I ate delicious homemade Green Tea ice cream. And I was in heaven…
I wanted to eat a cheeseburger more than anything. You just can’t find red meat around Thailand. Especially in the rural areas, like the town I live in. Enter Maya Burger Queen… A delicious cheeseburger with bacon and some hand cut fries and my craving was satisfied.
Make sure to stop at the walking street market as the food stands that are there are amazing. I had nachos, I had dumplings, I almost had lasagna…. The options are endless.
I also have to give a shout out to Om Garden Cafe. Unfortunately it was closed when we visited, but the two owners were incredible humans and ended up driving us to a different lunch spot after we asked for a recommendation… Go eat there and tell me how it is!
