When I travel, I travel for long periods of time. That means that it’s important for me to pack the necessities and nothing more. No one wants to be lugging around a heavy backpack or suitcase (trust me, I would know…my first backpack weighed well over 50 pounds). And when I’m getting ready to pack, I pull out the incredibly useful items I won’t travel without.
Travel accessories are super important. You want to choose ones that you can actually use and ones that make your life easier. For me that usually includes things that help keep me not only keep my bag organized, but keep my life organized too. It also includes travel gadgets that help fill the void when I’m super bored on a long bus ride or flight. And of course it includes items that help me run my blog smoothly.
Five Incredibly Useful Items I Won’t Travel Without
Eagle Creek Compression Cubes So Your Clothes Stay Organized
I swear by these babies. I have two sets of them (a total of four cubes in two different sizes). They are the only things that keep my bag together. Without them I would be lost. You can fit so much inside of the cubes. I like to use the rolling method and roll everything up and then zip up the bags. The compression cubes get rid of all of the extra air and things stay neat and don’t wrinkle.
Wireless Bluetooth Headphones For Hassle Free Listening
I like to listen to music on long bus rides (especially around SE Asia). Most of the buses don’t have TVs (unless you’re traveling VIP style) so I rely on my phone to keep me entertained. I usually make a Spotify playlist and rock out. I really like to keep my hoodie on my head on the bus because of how cold it often is and headphones with wires can be a pain in the ass. Plus, if you’ve got the iPhone 7 you’re probably on the market for some bluetooth wireless headphones. Well, these ones are awesome. They keep charge for 10 hours which is perfect for me.
An Olympus Mirrorless Camera So I Can Take Photos Of Everything
My Olympus camera is my baby. I am a mirrorless camera convert. I used to swear by a big D-SLR, but I’m always on the move and I have back problems so a huge, heavy camera just isn’t worth it for me. My Olympus takes incredible photos (I barely edit them!) and it’s super lightweight. I’m hoping to invest in a new lens before my next trip!
An Instant Camera To Create Physical Memories
You might be wondering how this is an incredibly useful item to travel with, but I love polaroids because I can keep them forever (I have a tin full of hundreds from high school until now). They are great conversation starters and everyone loves to hop into the photos.
I recently purchased a brand new instant camera. And I’m in love. The Instax Mini 70 is ahead of it’s game (or maybe I was just really really behind). The great thing about this camera is that you don’t have to futz with the settings! You’re almost guaranteed to get a great photo because it automatically senses the environment and decides on the settings itself. That means no blown out photos (but if you want them like that, you can make it do that). Plus, there is this awesome little mirror on the front so you can see yourself when you’re taking a selfie (and there is a selfie mode!!). And of course you need film… I usually stock up with two packs (to be fair I just bought a ton of film in Tokyo)!
I can’t live without these bags. It might sound ridiculous, but they are perfection in the form of clear bags. Seriously though. I store everything in these. I use the big one for my toiletries, the medium size for all of my electronic cords and accessories, and the small one for my makeup. And it keeps things so organized. And I am a happy girl when my backpack is organized.
I love your list. I also travel with travel cubes. I can’t live without them. I also love a good toiletries bag which you can hang up. Handy for those showers that do not have shelves.
Also a power pack to keep your items charged when on the bus journeys 🙂
