Exploring Grenada in the Caribbean

I recently spent some time exploring Grenada in the Caribbean. It was one of those places that I had heard a little about, but not as much as other Caribbean islands. Growing up in the United States, I took a ton of holidays to the Caribbean because of how easy it was, but it consisted of the more well known and well-developed islands in the region. Much to my surprise, it was actually fairly easy to get to the Caribbean from the United Kingdom and getting around was simple too. And the ease of that makes it a top destination for Brits (it’s also part of the Commonwealth which helps too!)

The great thing about exploring Grenada is that you can split your time between exploring lush jungles and dramatic waterfalls and lounging on one of the many white sand beaches. You can dine at fancy restaurants or grab a bite to eat at one of the local hotspots scattered around the island. Basically what I’m trying to say is that there is something for everyone in Grenada. It’s a perfect location for families, couples, adventure travelers, backpackers, and more. So, what are you waiting for? Start planning your trip to the gorgeous island of Grenada now!

Exploring Grenada In The Caribbean

There is literally so much to do on this stunning island. But, I was only there for four days so I just got a quick taste. And that quick taste has me itching to get back and explore even more!

How To Get There

If you’re flying from the UK, hop on a plane at Gatwick. You’ll fly from London to St. Lucia and then to Grenada with Virgin Atlantic. If you’re flying from the states, you’ll probably end up flying via Miami.

Where To Stay

There are a number of gorgeous properties on Grenada. Most of the properties are family owned and operated and give you a nice homey, local feel. If you’re interested in staying somewhere that has the best hospitality, then True Blue Bay Boutique Resort is your best bet. The property is great and has really comfortable rooms. There are two pools and a great little bar and deck area (which is also home to Street Food Wednesdays (something you can’t miss if you’re in Grenada during the week)).

Other properties include Laluna Boutique Beach Hotel and Villas, a more upscale luxury property, Petite Anse Hotel which has sweeping beachside views, and Blue Horizons Garden Resort, a hotel with the most beautiful gardens ever.

Stay tuned for a new Kimpton and SilverSands to open in 2019//2020.

What To Do

Go For A Swim

The highlight of my trip to Grenada was snorkeling at the Underwater Sculpture Park. It’s actually one of my favorite things that I have ever done. We met up with Eco Dive to go for a morning snorkel. The guide was really awesome and knew so much about the park.

Several years ago, Jason deCaires Taylor created the first underwater sculpture park in the world. The whole point of it was to help restore the coral reef after a huge hurricane in the early 2000s. And it’s been working. Since 2006, more wildlife has come back into the area.

Take An Off Roading Jeep Tour

Anyone with an adventurous side will love spending the day off-roading and exploring the island with Sun Hunters Jeep Tours. We spent the entire day driving around the island checking out waterfalls, beautiful beaches, colorful towns, and more!

Taste Some Chocolate

You will find a ton of fresh chocolate while exploring Grenada. My favorite spot was Belmont Estate. We got to walk through the whole process of how chocolate is made and we got to taste some delicious blends afterward. I loved the dark chocolate with salted caramel flavor.

Sip on Some Rum

You really can’t go to a Caribbean island without spending an afternoon sipping on rum. And man did we do that. We enjoyed several rounds of rum punch as well as some locally crafted cocktails.

Take A Sunset Cruise

Set sail on a sloop with Savvy Sailing (which is a traditional sailboat) and watch the sunset over the Caribbean Sea. The boat is beautiful and is definitely Instagrammable, but the real treat will be spending some time with Danny, Christopher, and Walter.

Where To Eat

We dined at some pretty incredible places during our visit to Grenada. I actually don’t think I had a bad meal (and that’s including the night that I wasn’t that hungry and ate a plate of rice and some fried plantains).

Secret Harbour Marina

Do yourself a favor and start your meal off with some tuna ceviche. Follow it with the mahi-mahi and then enjoy the chocolate surprise for dessert. And of course pair all of that with a rum punch.

Water Club

This is a great little beachside shack that is serving up some delicious bbq!

Dodgy Dock

This spot is located at the True Blue Bay Boutique Resort and it is the hotspot on Wednesday nights! Don’t miss out on some delicious local food.

Belmont Estate

We enjoyed a delicious three-course meal here! The soup was my favorite part! After the soup, there was a buffet of hot food which was followed by some nutmeg ice cream (Grenada is the Spice Island!).

BB’s Crabback

This was by far one of the best meals we had the entire time! The ribs are insanely good! It’s also been featured on Nat Geo as one of the best restaurants on the island.

Travel Colorfully was invited to Grenada as a guest of the Tourism Board, as always all opinions are my own.

Nice post! I wish to go to Grenada one day too. Last year I spent two months in Guadeloupe and Martinique and I wrote about it on my blog, and I would like to visit also other islands. I totally agree with you if it comes to chocolate! In French Antilles, they’ve got a chocolate factory which is called Chocolat Elot, and it is GORGEOUS! It’s with the addition of cane sugar so its taste is so extraordinary. I love it!

Grenada was incredible! The weather wasn’t the best when we were there, but it was still one of my favorite trips! Plus, I absolutely loved all of the people that we met there! I’d love to visit Guadeloupe and Martinique!!
