There is nothing like London in the summertime. Maybe I just feel that way because I’ve been really lucky since moving here. I’ve been able to experience one and a half amazing summers! And my favorite thing about it is that there is so much going on during the summer months in London! So if you’re lucky enough to be traveling to London in the sunshine and during summertime, here are eight things to do during the summer in London.
Eight Things To Do During The Summer in London
1. If you’re here during July, try queueing for Wimbledon tickets!
I recently did this while my Mom was in town and it was quite the adventure. In fact, I have two videos about queuing up for Wimbledon! It’s a great way to spend a day in the sun, watching great tennis. Whether you get a ticket for centre court or you just hang out on the hill, it’s a lot of fun.
2. Take the train out to Richmond for a day by the river and a walk in the park.
Richmond is only fifteen minutes away from central London by train. You can grab it from Waterloo Station. I usually take it from Clapham Junction (and it only takes 9 minutes from there). Richmond is great to visit on a sunny day because even though it’s crowded, it’s not nearly as crowded as central London. You can sit by the Thames and watch the boats go by with an ice cold pint in hand or you can pack a picnic and head to Richmond Park for some exploring!
3. Catch a film at Granary Square
The great thing about London summers is that a lot of different venues will show movies in the evenings and afternoons. My favorite place to go is Grananry Square. It’s located about five minutes from Kings Cross and it’s awesome because it’s next to Coal Drops Yard, which just opened. There are lots of delicious restaurants and fun bars too check out! Plus, Granaary Square is located right on the canal, making it the perfect backdrop for a movie.
4. Hop on a canal boat
Seeing London from a boat is one of the more unique things you can do. And taking a boattride down the canal is even more fun than taking one down the THames. The London Waterbus company operates a service between Little Venice (Paddington) and Camden. It’s a great ride to take and you’ll see gorgeous houses and gardens along the way.
5. Indulge in Some Street Food
After you’ve taken your boatride, grab a bite to eat at one of the many food stalls in Camden Market. Choose from pretty much any cuisine you can think of — seriously they have Indian food, salt beef bagels, burgers, halloumi fries, pizza, Chinese food, Thai food, and more!
6. Head to Battersea Powerstatiton for some Al Fresco Dining
Battersea Powerstattion is still a bitt unknown to people since it’s not up and running yet. But, there is still so much to do over there. There are so many different restaurants that offer outside seating, right next to the river. From No. 29 and Megan’s which both serve up delicious brunch to Vagabond, an awesome little wine bar, to Cinnamon Kitchen and Momma’s (check name of Italian pizza place), there is so much to choose from.
7. Spend the morning exploring Borough Market
Borough market is one of my favorite places in all of London. And that’s because the options for food are endless. But, I also love it because there are some really cool stalls that sell amazing fresh produce, cheeses, honeys, oils, and more.
8. Have a picnic in one of the many parks
London has some of the best green spaces I have ever seen. There are eight royal parks in the greater London area and then several smaller ones located around the city. Pack yourself a picnic and spend the day soaking up the sun in one of the parks with your friends! My favorites are Clapham Common and Battersea Park!
