#CheckingIN: The Academy Hotel London

I love a good staycation. Especially in London. And that’s because the city is so spread out. I don’t feel like I get to see it all during most weeks. So, when The Academy Hotel invited me for a staycation in their Bloomsbury hotel, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to enjoy a night in Central London. Plus, I was invited to experience their new literary cocktail menu, and as a big reader, I didn’t want to miss that!

#CheckingIN: The Academy Hotel London

Location

The Academy Hotel is located in Bloomsbury, London. The area is known for its famous past residents like Virginia Woolf and John Maynard Keynes. Bloomsbury is a quiet area in London’s West End. It’s only a few blocks from the hustle and bustle of Oxford Street, but you wouldn’t know as you stroll past large Georgian Townhouses that date back 240 years ago.

To get there, take the Northern Line to Goodge Street or the Central Line or Northern Line to Tottenham Court Road.

The Hotel

The Rooms

I checked into the Bloomsbury Suite. It featured a massive bed which was so easy to sink into and get a good nights rest on. It also had a comfortable seating area with a pull out couch. The bathroom features stunning marble details and a waterfall shower head. The mini bar is included in your stay and bathrobes and slippers are available to you as well. Prices start at 280 pounds per night.

But if you don’t need a suite, you can book into a Townhouse Single, perfect for the solo traveler who wants a bit of luxury for a reasonable price, which starts at around 150 pounds. There is also a Townhouse King, with prices starting at 200 pounds, the Bloomsbury Twin, which has two twin beds and prices starting at 210 pounds, and the Bloomsbury King starting at 220 pounds per night.

Dining

If you get hungry during your stay, room service is available daily. Breakfast can be added to your booking and is served in the Refectory. It is a continental style breakfast and features fresh pastries, fruits, cereals, and juices.

For a special treat, book into Mr. Ma’s Afternoon Tea. The food is absolutely delicious and the teas are fantastic. Plus, the setting for Afternoon Tea is wonderful. On a sunny day, sit in the courtyard or enjoy it in the gorgeous library or Alchemy Bar.

And speaking of the Alchemy Bar… in honor of World Book Day, sip on Literary inspired cocktails which have been carefully crafted to honor notable writers who once lived in Bloomsbury. Enjoy an Old Fashioned Leonard, a quirky take on a classic Old Fashioned in honor of Virginia Woolf’s husband Leonard. Or if you’re a fan of gin, enjoy The Lighthouse, which pays an homage to Woolf’s childhood memories of her summers spent in St Ives in Cornwall. A number of other cocktails make up the list and all feature a spin on a classic.

Stay in Style

To conclude, The Academy Hotel is somewhere that I would visit over and over again. The hospitality was fantastic and everyone took care of me during my stay. I really suggest booking this hotel if you’re looking for a beautiful hotel to stay in in Central London!

A complimentary stay was offered to me in exchange for a review! As always all opinions are my own!
