I don’t explore my backyard enough. I’m here in Florida for a few months and I want to explore the place that I live. So, a few weeks ago, I ventured to Miami to visit the Wynwood Arts District and see the Wynwood Walls. (It’s super easy to get to as it’s right off of I-95)
There have been additions of Wynwood Doors and gardens and, my personal favorite, Outside The Walls. This is perhaps one of the artsiest, most Instagrammable places I have ever been.
Make sure to head to one of the many restaurants or cafes and grab some food. Do you love tacos as much as me? Then make sure to stop at Coyo Tacos for delicious, freshly made tortillas filled with delicious combinations. I’m hoping to head back down there to try a different spot.
The Most Insta-Worthy Wynwood Walls
You can find walls that cover all sorts of topics. There’s a wall with Yoda on it, there are splatter painted walls. There are geometric ones, ones with elephants on them, giant hands, optical illusions and so much more. Here are few of my absolute favorites that will brighten up anyone’s Instagram feed.
Wynwood is home to art galleries, shops, cafes, bars, and restaurants. But, it’s probably most known for the Wynwood Walls. The project started in 2009 and since then over 80,000 square feet of walls have been painted. If you’re lucky and you visit on the second Saturday of the month, you can participate in an art walk. Wynwood will be packed as galleries open their doors to guests and food trucks gather.
The place embodies #travelcolorfully. I could literally spend hours wandering around, checking out the gorgeous, vibrant walls painted by artists from all over the world. Just look. It goes on for blocks and blocks. It’s so colorful. It’s pretty much what my dreams are made of.
More About The Wynwood Walls
Depending on when you’re reading this post, many of these walls won’t actually be at Wynwood when you go. And that’s because each year during Art Basel (an arts festival that takes over Miami in December), many of the walls are painted over so other artists can display their work. Walls that surround the official Wynwood Walls area change even more frequently!
I think that makes it way more fun! It means that you could go several times in a year and everything may look different.
Where To Find The Best Murals In Wynwood
I highly suggest taking more time to explore the surrounding areas of the Wynwood Walls then the actual enclosed area. Wander around the streets that make up the outskirts of Wynwood. Stumble into parking lots and check out some of the privately commissioned work. If a store is open, they generally won’t mind if you want to snap some photos of the murals as long as you don’t disrupt their business!
When stores and restaurants are closed, it’s free game as long as you aren’t trespassing!
Are you familiar with South Florida? Do you have any ideas on cool things to do in the area? I would love to know so I can go explore some more.
