As someone who is always traveling the world, I’ll be honest, it takes a lot for me to feel blown away. And that’s because I’ve seen so many incredible places around the world already. It’s hard for me to think that it could get any better. But, during our day trip to Khao Sok National Park, I realized that I would be spending the day in one of the must stunning places in the entire world.
Khao Sok National Park is located in the Surat Thani Province in Southern Thailand. And it’s worth a long bus or car ride to visit for a day, or if you’re lucky for a few days.
A Day Trip To Khao Sok National Park
Book A Tour
Khao Sok National Park can be hard to visit on your own. I suggest booking a tour. Ours was booked through TUI. This was great for us as it meant everything would be sorted for us. We were picked up from our hotel in Khao Lak around 7 AM. We were then whisked away to paradise. The car ride was about two hours and our guide spoke to us about the national park during the journey. He gave us all a bit of background information, which was helpful as none of us had visited before.
Our TUI tour was about 89 pounds. It included our guide, entry fee to the park, roundtrip transportation, lunch, and water/soft drinks throughout the day.
Stay The Night
If you’re interested in staying the night at Khao Sok National Park, you’ll also have to book a tour. There are several options on the park’s website. You can choose from a three day or two day jungle safari. Both the three day and two day adventures allow you to potentially spot white elephants. You also will spend either one or two nights at the elephant camp.
You can also book at one of the floating bungalow hotels. In order to do so, you will need to book a tour. The reason for this is that you can’t explore the national park without a guide.
Your Day Trip To Khao Sok National Park – Morning
Once you arrive at the park, you’ll disembark from your van or car and you’ll make your way down to the docks to board a longtail boat. Riding around the lake on the longtail boat was by far my favorite part of the entire tour. And that’s because the view from the lake is insanely gorgeous. There are limescale mountains and cliffs towering over you. The landscape is really special.
After about 30-40 minutes on the boat, it’s time to explore the lush jungle! Now, I’ll be honest, I thought that this was the most anticlimactic part of the trip. That’s because we didn’t really see any animals during this trek. It lasted about 45 minutes and we just wandered around the jungle with our guide. He told us about some plants and the types of birds that are in the area.
Next up we were able to explore a stunning cave. The cave was covered with stalagmites and you could see how old it was by how long and thin they were. The highlight of our cave visit was seeing fruit bats hanging from the ceiling inside.
Your Day Trip To Khao Sok National Park – Afternoon
After exploring, it’s time for lunch! Hop back on your longtail boat and ride for about fifteen minutes to your amazing lunch setup. You’ll dine on a floating dock in the middle of the Cheow Lan Lake. Dine on traditional Thai food and enjoy the stunning views. When you’re finished, grab a life vest and jump into the warm water. If you’d prefer to explore a bit more, hop in a kayak and paddle around until it’s time to go.
Your guide will tell you when it’s time to board the longtail boat to head back to the docks at the dam. And then, on your car ride home, you’ll stop at the Monkey Temple to see the monkeys before heading back to your hotel!
