Baltimore will always hold a huge place in my heart. And, I was so excited to have the chance to head back after nearly three years since my last visit. I went to college in Baltimore, spending four years at Loyola University. I had an incredible experience and a huge part of that was because of the totally underrated city that I got to live in. Because of that I wanted to create the perfect guide for a Baltimore weekend trip.
There are several different neighborhoods in the Baltimore area. I stayed in Mt. Vernon where my best friend lives. I’ve spent a lot of time in the downtown area and my favorite neighborhood is definitely Fells Point. I feel like Baltimore is one of the most underrated cities in the entire country and not many people think to visit. Hopefully this list of things to do and see, and places to eat will help change their minds.
A Baltimore Weekend Trip
Delicious Food, Fun Bars, And Cute Cafes
Everyone knows that my favorite thing about visiting a place is the food. It’s also important to have some cool nightlife. But, perhaps my favorite thing about Baltimore are the cute cafes. So here is a list of the best restaurants, bars, and cafes (or at least my favorites) in the Baltimore area.
Woodberry Kitchen
The most delicious food I have ever tasted. I used to love coming to this spot during college when my parents visited. It’s a bit on the pricey side, but their cocktails, brunch, and dinner service are to die for. They take the whole farm-to-table, hip and rustic charm to a new level.
I had my graduation dinner here – they have a really cool vibe and are located in Harbor East, an area that has a lot of great shops by the water.
Eat at Atwaters. Order the Chicken Salad. Thank me later.
This cool Mt. Vernon spot has a cool restaurant on the top floor and a really awesome bar in the basement. The Mac and Cheese is so delicious.
Myth and Moonshine
A great brunch spot if you’re interested in bottomless mimosas. The Eggs Benedict was delicious.
Another really awesome brunch spot located on the water. It’s a great spot when it’s warm outside.
Located in the artsy neighborhood of Hampden, this converted grocery store cooks up some delicious American food.
The best bar I’ve been to in years. It’s really tiny so it gets crowded, but it’s so worth it (because of the throwback music that makes the emo kid inside me happy).
Just a fifteen minute drive from the city, this winery is the perfect place to head for a tasting. Post up on one of the picnic tables outside and enjoy a bottle of delicious wine.
A really cute and trendy coffee and tea spot in Mt. Vernon. Great wifi, great vibes, Instagramworthy.
The Bun Shop
If I lived in Baltimore again I would literally post up here everyday and work. I didn’t get to try and of the pastries but apparently they are delicious.
Towson Hot Bagel
The best bagel. And I’m from New York and I’m saying that.
Things To Do, Neighborhoods To Explore
Several neighborhoods make up the downtown Baltimore area. Make sure to check out Mt. Vernon, Fells Point, Canton, Fed Hill, and The Inner Harbor. You could spend the whole weekend exploring those areas of the city. A few ideas: rent dragon boats in the harbor when it’s warm out, go to an Orioles game, explore the historical area of Mt. Vernon, bar hop in Canton or Fed Hill, and hop in the car and explore the many college campuses in the area.
