Seminyak is just one of those places that you have to visit when you go to Bali. I knew that I wanted to steer clear of Kuta, so Seminyak was the obvious choice on where to visit in the more “touristy” area of the island.
I checked into Montigo Resorts which was located in a perfect spot. We were right next door to Potato Head Beach Club and walking distance to several restaurants and fun bars. Seminyak is one of those places where you truly feel as if you’re on holiday. You can relax and just enjoy yourself without worrying about everything else going on in the world.
If you’re interested in somewhere a bit more low-key, head over to Canggu, a surfer town that’s about a 15 minute taxi ride away. While there you can visit Finn’s Beach Club for some fun in the sun.
Here are 5 things you must do while in Seminyak:
1. Spend the day at Potato Head Beach Club
There are several different beach clubs that you can choose from in the Kuta-Seminyak-Canggu area. I highly suggest Potato Head as it has a great vibe and really delicious food and drinks. Make sure to arrive in the morning to put your name down for a daybed. We arrived at 9 AM to put our name down. There was already a queue forming. You’ll leave your name with the desk and then come back at 10 AM to claim your bed.
You have to spend a minimum of 500,000 IDR which is really not that difficult there as it is a pricier spot. We spent the entire day there — from 10AM until after sunset so we ended up eating both lunch and dinner there (make sure you ask your waiter for the restaurant menu!). The drinks are delicious as well, but we ended up switching to beer since the cocktails are a bit too sweet to drink all day.
2. Indulge in a smoothie bowl (or 10)
If you look up Bali on Instagram, you’ll probably see several photos of smoothie bowls. And they are all delicious. There are several places that you can grab the famous dish, but my personal favorite was Cafe Organic. The smoothie bowls were not only so tasty, but they were also extremely fresh and constructed beautifully. Another favorite are Nalu Bowls (which you can actually find all over Bali!).
3. Eat
The food in Bali is so fresh. You won’t find as many fried dishes here as the rest of Southeast Asia. Indulge in some local favorites like beef rendang or nasi goreng. Or indulge in the western options as the island has a heavy Australian influence. You can find decent Mexican food, organic options and some very good seafood. Places that deserve a shout out: Taco Loco (Canggu), Milk & Madu (Canggu), Finn’s Beach Club (Canggu), Cafe Organic, Saigon Street, Woo Bar and Potato Head Beach Club.
4. Take in some culture
Hop on a motorbike or get a taxi over to Tanah Lot. The temple is located about 45 minutes away from Seminyak (really dependent on the terrible traffic in Bali). You can visit right before sunset and then grab a spot to watch the magic happen. If you want to actually visit the temple make sure you check the tides as you can only visit when the tide is out. Be weary though–there are a ton of tourists here.
5. Party All Night Long
The nightlife in Seminyak is so much fun. You can head to a bar for a few drinks or you can have a big night out. A good place to start is Motel Mexicola. From there head to La Favela, a restaurant that turns into a nightclub. The place gives off a seriously awesome vibe and makes you feel like you’re dancing in the jungle. If you want to stay out after the doors close at 3AM, head over to Kuta for some late night spots.
